We would like to take this opportunity to provide updates and context regarding recent developments around the community playground fence. These actions have been taken with careful consideration and in the best interests of safety, wellbeing and community harmony.

While there is no specific law mandating a fence around playgrounds, it is generally considered a legal requirement to ensure child safety and meet British Standards BS EN 1176, which outlines safety requirements for playground equipment and surfacing. Installing a fence is a widely accepted best practice to:

  • Prevent young children from running into nearby roads or other hazards.

  • Deter dogs and other animals from entering the play area.

  • Provide a clear boundary that helps parents and carers supervise children more effectively.

This measure is being taken with the safety and wellbeing of our youngest residents in mind.
